Portage Mr. Stoppelberg passed away October 1, 2007 at his home. He was born June 24, 1923 in Kalamazoo, one of four sons to Adolph and Wubina Roossien Stoppelberg. Babe was a veteran of the United States Army serving as a paratrooper during both World War II and the Korean Conflict. Babe worked for Packaging Corporation of America until their closing in 1980. In his retirement, he worked at Village Laundromat in Schoolcraft for many years. Mr. Stoppelberg was a member of V.F.W. Red Arrow Post #1527 in Kalamazoo. Preceding him in death are his first wife of 26 years, Thelma Brooks Stoppelberg, in 1973; his parents; and 2 brothers, Harm and Arrend Stoppelberg. On September 23, 1973, he was united in marriage to Pauline Bill Schmidt, who survives. Also surviving are six children, Roger Sue Lucas of Cape Coral, FL, Diane Barry Martin of Davenport, FL, Judy Tom DeWolff of Schoolcraft, Karen Ken Mann of Portage, Debbie Johnston, of St. Cloud, FL, and Tami Kevin Lee of Schoolcraft; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Cecil Annie Stoppelberg of Parchment; sister-in-law, Verle Stoppelberg of Kalamazoo; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services for Mr. Stoppelberg will be at 9:30 AM on Friday at Greenwood Reformed Church, 1815 Winton Avenue. There will be no visitation. Interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
