Wanda passed away on Tuesday evening, August 29, 2017, surrounded by her children and grandchildren at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan, resulting from complications with overwhelming pneumonia and ARDS - (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome). She was born on March 4, 1932 in Battle Creek, MI, the daughter of the late William and Arvilla (Himebaugh) Plotner. In 1950, Wanda met Lewis Charles Canney, while he was stationed at Fort Custer in Battle Creek, Michigan and 6 months later, on September 30, 1950, they were united in marriage. In 1969, Lewis and Wanda purchased the Kalamazoo Culligan water treatment dealership, forming Canney's Water Conditioning Inc. With Lewis' sudden passing in 1984, immediately Wanda took over as the company President and through her leadership with her children, they continued to grow the family's business to this day, with the support of the Southwest Michigan community. Wanda was a devout catholic and was a longtime member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Surviving are six children: Brian (Patrice) Canney of Portage, Cathryn 'Ann' (Ken) DeVisser of Mattawan, Scott Canney of Belleair Beach, FL, Sean Canney of Portage, Kevin (Vicky) Canney of Edwardsburg and Mary Jane (Jim) Midgett of Davenport, IA; 10 grandchildren: Megan (Jacob) VanOrder of Chicago, IL, Kristen (John) Noble of Portage, Dr. Michael DeVisser of Chicago, IL, Lisa (Travis) Thompson of Kalamazoo, Austin Canney of Kalamazoo, Devin Canney of Kalamazoo, Brandon (Davie Ocker) Canney of Kalamazoo, Katie (Phil) Koch of Portage, Karmen (Chris) Rimes of Edwardsburg and Alexander Midgett of Grand Rapids and 12 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband, Lewis Charles Canney on Nov. 24, 1984; son: Terry Jay Canney on Sept. 16, 1982; and grandsons: Mathew Scott Canney on Jan. 12, 2011 and Bradley James Midgett on Jan. 07, 2010, Eight brothers and sisters: Wesley Plotner, LaVern Plotner, Ivan Plotner, Viola Monarch, Gladys Strohm, Millicent Plotner, Florence Jean Herrick and Christina Collige. Visitation will be from 12-7:30 PM on Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street, with a rosary at 7:30 PM. A viewing will be at 10:00AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 W. Centre Avenue. Public entombment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission or Disabled American Veterans.
