Phyllis Arlene Nuyen

January 30, 1922 — March 25, 2018

Phyllis Arlene Nuyen passed away peacefully Sunday, March 25, 2018 at the age of 96 surrounded by family at Rose Arbor. Phyllis was born January 30, 1922 in Kalamazoo to the late Clarence Pasch and Blanche (Deloof) Pasch. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, William (Bill) Nuyen, on January 23, 1943. They were together for 73 years. Phyllis worked several different jobs on and nearby the various Naval bases around the country that Bill was stationed at while serving in the Navy during the War. Phyllis worked at Consumers Power and King Paper Mill when they returned home.

Phyllis had a very kind heart and brought smiles and joy to all she came in contact with... she only saw the good in people. She had many life long friends in both Kalamazoo and Naples, Florida where she and Bill spent the winter months. Most notably she touched the lives of her family in a very special, supportive role. She was always there for them as a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Her strong interests were a love of cooking, fashion, golfing, playing bridge and bird watching. Taking nature walks at Indian Lake watching the birds and picking wild flowers always provided great joy. She had a special attachment to Indian Lake, as that is where she met Bill.

Phyllis has been a long time member of the First Congregational Church and a lifetime resident of Kalamazoo. Naples, Florida was their second home for over 35 years and she loved listening to the soothing sounds of the waves crashing on the beach.

Phyllis is survived by her sister Lois Britton, sons Greg (Patricia) Nuyen and Mark (Thelma) Nuyen; 5 grandchildren, Julie Gless, Wendy Gebben, Michael Nuyen, Richard Nuyen and Christina Collins; 13 great grandchildren. A private memorial dinner celebration for the family will take place at a later date. The family is being served by the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Phyllis' name may be directed to Hospice Rose Arbor and St Jude Children's Hospital.
