Passed away Tuesday afternoon, September 19, 2017 at his home. Philip was born January 1, 1925 in Decatur, IL the son of the late Joseph and Marie (Gaetano) Maronto. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Prior to his retirement he worked for 40 years as a switchman with the Chicago Belt Railway. Philip was a member of St. Catherine of Siena, the VFW and the Eagles; and enjoyed traveling, and drawing cartoons. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the White Sox and Notre Dame football. In his earlier years he was a little league coach. On August 3, 1946 Philip was united in marriage to his loving wife of 71 years, Eva Rose (Kovach), who survives. Also surviving are his children, Stephen (Nancy) Maronto, Joseph Maronto, Gina (Mark) Atilano; 4 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Philip was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Pamela Maronto; and 7 brothers and sisters. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00am Saturday, September 23 at St. Catherine of Siena, 1150 W. Centre. Interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Friends may meet the family from 5-8pm Friday September 22 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre where a Rosary will be held at 7:00pm. Memorials may be directed to St. Catherine of Siena.
