Michael “ Mike” Martinson died on August 25, 2023, at the age of 42. He was the ‘go-to’ guy for getting things put together, fixed, or replaced and he would be the one called on to setup and debug everybody’s computer and/or cell phone. You could never leave your phone unattended because you might just end up with a new ringtone or his face as your background. He was a Lego building expert and challenged himself to find the largest Lego kits ever produced! Mike loved food and well-balanced dining which encompassed “his” seven basic food groups…..Beef, Pork, Chicken, Reese’s Peanut Butter cups, extra sharp cheddar cheese, Speedway fountain Pepsi & Moomers Ice Cream! On all traveling adventures you could always count on receiving a picture of whatever meal Mike was having.
Mike was a lifelong resident of Portage, Michigan, the son of Dale Martinson and Elaine (Bob) Flegal. He had two siblings, Cristi (Chad) Hammond and Eric (Jessica) DeVries.
Mike loved movies of all kinds and frequently talked in movie quotes. Most recently he was a big fan of the “Top Gun” movies. He also was a lover of music, especially Garth Brooks who he saw in concert 6 times. But most of all Mike loved his family and “Maximizing Family Fun”. In 2004, he married his high school sweetheart Jennifer (Jen). Mike said from the first time he laid eyes on Jen and still yet today, he “Never Lost that Loving feeling” for her! During their nineteen year “hitch,” Mike and Jen added to their family with two beautiful daughters, Grace and Olivia!
Mike’s surviving “Ground Support Team” includes his wife, kids, parents, siblings and spouses, his grandmother Jean Kilgore, grandpa in-law Jack Peekstok, in-laws Jill & Mark Shadley, sister and brother in-law Erica and Dan Robison, his nieces and nephews, Carli, Kadyn, Ryli, Kennedi, Ella, Gavin, Hailey, Zoey, Paige, Owen, Rory, and Mike’s #1 “Wing Man” Joe, and his wife, Alexis. He is also survived by multiple aunts, uncles, and several cousins.
Mike owned and operated HARC.com, a company specializing in assistive products for persons with hearing disabilities. He also worked with his father in a local tax practice. Mike was very active in the community as a member of Renovation Church in Portage, Michigan. He also served as a Board Member, Treasurer and Acting Chairperson of the Kalamazoo Dream Center in the Edison Neighborhood on the east side of Kalamazoo for a number of years.
Mike was a humble, good-hearted, honest man who every day, lived, laughed and loved to the fullest. He would want to remind us all of lyrics from Garth Brooks: “To tell that someone that you love just what you're thinking of if tomorrow never comes!”
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mike’s memory may be made to help support his children. Please make checks payable to Jennifer Martinson, FBO Grace and Olivia Martinson.
