Laura Marie Regas, age 65, passed away November 12, 2017 at home in Richland, MI. She was born on June 4, 1952 in Detroit, MI a daughter of John and Hilda (Tonello) York. Laura worked as a Labor and Delivery Nurse at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall for 44 years.

Laura will be remembered for her humor and optimism. In work and with her loved ones she gave her best with grace and sensitivity. Laura's heart was with her granddaughters who adored their loving, silly Nana. Laura was a person who inspired and saw the best in everyone, a person rich in patience, compassion and joy. In her career, she helped women (including her own daughters) experience their births with confidence. Laura liked to be busy. She was a member of SWAMPA (Southwestern Michigan Perinatal Association) and was nominated SWAMPA Queen in 1989. She also served many years as a board member and costume seamstress for Ballet Arts Ensemble and volunteered with Gull Lake Area Community Volunteers. Laura lived every day with endless kindness and enthusiasm, an example of a life fully lived.

On June 16, 1973 Laura married Nicholas G. Regas who preceded her in death on April 23, 2015. Laura was also preceded in death by her father. Surviving are three children, Lea Beth and Aliou Sidibe of Bamako, Mali, Jacob Nicholas Regas of Richland and Kara Anne and Scott Cline of Prague, Czech Republic; two granddaughters, Sira Ilde Maria Sidibe and Isabella Rose Cline; mother, Hilda York of Traverse City; four siblings, Christine(Stuart) Tipping of Wisconsin, Leta (George) Culver from Imlay City, MI, John (Judy) York of Williamsburg, MI and Jan (Jody) Prause of Grand Rapids, MI; brother-in-law, John Regas of Battle Creek; sister-in-law, Linda Zeithammel of Galesburg; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins; and many loyal friends, including Ken and Gay Colby, Patricia Brady, Pat Musser and the nurses at Oaklawn Hospital. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 16, from 11AM to 1PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St., where services will begin at 1PM. Private burial will take place in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials and dedications may be directed to Oaklawn Hospital Birth Center's Programs for Cultural Sensitivity or Michigan Radio (NPR).
