Loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Borgess Medical Center, age 95. Jake was born in Kalamazoo on July 2, 1923, the son of the late William Zuidema and Nellie Scheffers Zuidema. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II from January of 1943 until January of 1946. He was employed as an electrician with James River Company, retiring after 43 years of service. He enjoyed spending time outdoors deer hunting, taking fishing trips to Canada and spending 18 winters in Florida. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Marian (Dykehouse) Zuidema; two sons, Ralph (Priscilla) Zuidema and Jack (Joanne) Zuidema; daughtera�"in-law, Linda Zuidema; son-in-law, Dennis Gaulden; nine grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Jake was preceded in death by a son, Bill Zuidema and a daughter, Judy Gaulden. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 13th at Hope Reformed Church, 910 Jenks Blvd., Kalamazoo, MI 49006, officiated by Pastor Dan Jongsma. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 10 a.m. until time of the service on Monday. Private interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Hope Reformed Church.
