Passed away Monday evening, November 13, 2017 at his home. Gerald was born July 10, 1946 in Detroit, MI the son of the late Thomas and Ruby (Cole) Rudolph. He was a graduate of Henry Ford High School in 1964 and received a Bachelor's Degree in Paralegal Studies from Davenport University. Gerald was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He served with the Alpha Company First Battalion 20th Infantry, 11th Light Infantry Brigade, 23rd Infantry Division (Americal) as RTO (radioman) for battalion leader, as platoon leader, and during reconnaissance. He received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star Medal with "V" device (for valor). Jerry work for several years with the United States Postal Service as a clerk prior to his retirement. He was a member of the American Postal Workers Union where he served as local union president from 1982-1987 and arbitrator at the regional and national levels. He was an avid Detroit Sports and Michigan Sports fan and enjoyed playing many sports including, softball, hockey, football, bowling and golf. If the weather would allow, Jerry could be found on the golf course many of those days. After being partners for seven years and supporting each other through many life challenges, On August 13, 2004, Jerry and Laurie were united in marriage. His loving wife survives. Also surviving are his children, Brian Rudolph and former wife Cyndi Beno (the mother of his grandchildren), Lisa McGuire (and former husband Archie); grandchildren, Brendan and Brett Rudolph, Hannah and Andrew McGuire; step-children, Casey Leake, Dustin (Janet) Womack, and their children, Gabreon, Nya, and Quintan; sister and brother, Cindy (Steve) Duke, Bill Rudolph; sister-in-law, Sandra Rudolph; nieces and nephews, C.T. and Mandy Duke, Travis and Lindsay Rudolph; several cousins, aunts and uncles; and Colleen Merrill (mother of his children), and Donna Butler (wife of many years). A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-5pm Sunday, November 19 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Cremation will follow and interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project.
