Elaine Dorothy Havens

Passed away on Friday, August 3, 2018 at Friendship Village, age 89. Elaine was born in Kalamazoo on August 12, 1928, the daughter of the late James Fraleigh and Eunice Cross Fraleigh. She attended Western Michigan University, where she received her Bachelors Degree. She retired from Kalamazoo Public Schools after thirty seven years of service, teaching at the Edison School her entire career. Elaine was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo. She belonged to the Retired Teachers Association, the Ladies Moose, the Ladies Library Association and the Encore dance group. She enjoyed singing & square dancing and loved to travel. Most of all she was a loving and devoted mother to her son, Stephen. Elaine is survived by her loving step-daughter, Judy Fross; her "daughters of the heart", Susan (Brian) Pleune and Stephanie (David) Israels; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Havens in 1987; and her son, Stephen Billard in 1998. A service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 13, 2018 in the chapel at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South, 3941 S. Westnedge Ave., Kalamazoo, MI 49008, with Rev. Keith Treman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo or the American Diabetes Association.
