Phillip James "Jim" Ritchie, age 85, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2018 in Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. He was born on February 23, 1933 in Springfield, IL a son of Floyd F. and Lillian M. (Lambracht) Ritchie. After graduating from Vandercook Lake High School, Phillip served in the US Army during the Korean War. He graduated from Tri-State University with a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and enjoyed a career working as an engineer for Perfect Circle Corporation (Dana), Sunbeam Equipment Corporation, General Electric and Seco-Warwick. He and his wife retired to Gun Lake, MI to be closer to family. He was a member of Wayland United Methodist Church, Society of Automotive Engineers and Rotary International. He enjoyed restoring British sports cars, hunting, fishing, boating, reading and spending time with his grandchildren. He served as a docent at the Air Zoo for 14 years and enjoyed making friends with fellow docents and visitors. Phillip was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Edward L. Cavanaugh. On March 26, 1960 Jim married the former Linda L. Saunders who survives. Also surviving are a son, Timothy T. Ritchie of Apex, NC; a daughter, Debra (Arthur) Mixis of Kalamazoo; and three grandchildren, Patrick J. Mixis, Emily E. Mixis and Jackson T. Ritchie. A memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, September 12th from 11:30 to 1:00 when a memorial service will begin at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Inurnment with military honors will be held at 2:30 in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend this service should be in the cemetery cortege area by 2:15. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to Rose Arbor Hospice Residence or the Food Bank of South Central Michigan.
