SCHAAP, Junia L. "June"
Junia "June" Louise Schaap, age 85, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2018 and went home to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born on March 2, 1933 in Kalamazoo, MI a daughter of Elmer J. and Ida (Dykstra) Redeker and had been a lifelong area resident. June was a dedicated member of Hope Reformed Church. June worked in the accounting department of The Upjohn Company for seven years leaving work to stay home and raise her two daughters. She enjoyed playing the piano and especially loved playing Sunday school songs for the young children. June enjoyed completing search puzzles, spending time in the pool with her grandchildren and watching Detroit Tigers baseball. She often received calls from church members that had a praise or concern and June would send that information to other church members through the prayer chain. On August 17, 1956 June married James H. Schaap, who preceded her in death on October 11, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Dale Redeker, Sr.; brother-in-law, Dick Kuiper, Jr.; and nephew, Dale Redeker, Jr. June is survived by two daughters, Kathleen (Mark) Rozek of Portage and Karen Schaap of Kalamazoo; two grandchildren, Laura Rozek and Paul Rozek; two siblings, Karen "Kay" Kuiper of Portage and Donald (Marcie) Redeker of Minden, NV; sister-in-law, Katherine "Kit" Redeker of Kalamazoo, and many nieces and nephews. Kathleen and Karen wish to sincerely thank the staff members of The Gardens and Heartland Hospice for the good care they provided for their mom. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 1st at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Private interment will be held in Grand Prairie Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 2nd at Hope Reformed Church, 910 Jenks Blvd., with Rev. Arthur Wiers officiating.
