of Kalamazoo, MI

Died Tuesday morning January 14, 2020 at his residence. Gene was born July 15, 1941 in Kalamazoo, Michigan a son of Forrest "Hub" and Katherine (Schrier) Kemp. He had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and was employed with General Motors for many years, retiring in 2010. Gene also attended Calvary Bible Church and was formerly a member of the Comstock Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, William Murray. On April 25, 1964, he was united in marriage to Charlotte E. (Fullmer) Kemp who survives. Also surviving, 3 children, Scott (Kim) Kemp of Cedar Springs, MI, Amy (James) Bassett of Sharpsburg, GA, and Angela Frick of Holly, MI; 6 grandchildren; 4 siblings, Helen Murray, Donald Kemp, and Paul (Evelyn) Kemp all of Kalamazoo, and Dale (Dorothy) Kemp of Plant City, FL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services will be held 11 o'clock Friday, January 17th at Calvary Bible Church, 855 S. Drake Rd. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Private burial will take place in Ft. Custer National Cemetery with full military honors at a later date. Memorials may be directed to S.P.C.A.
