Went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 9, 2012. Marilyn was born April 25, 1931 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Victor A. and Margaret A. (Biljum) Newton and was a resident of the area for many years. She was a graduate of the Bronson Methodist Hospital School of Nursing and worked at Borgess Hospital from 1968 until 1987, serving as Head of the Infection Control Department. Marilyn and her husband, Robert, were charter members on St. Michael Lutheran Church, and Marilyn was a current member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. On November 10, 1951, she married Robert D. Woodruff, who preceded her in death on August 10, 1989. She was also preceded by her parents and a great granddaughter, Meghan Baxter. Marilyn is survived by her children, Richard A. (Diane) Woodruff of Plainwell, Mary E. Woodruff of Kalamazoo, Ann M. (Robert) Shearer of Grand Junction, Donald L. (Lisa) Woodruff of Kalamazoo and Joseph R. (Amy Lynn) Woodruff of Kalamazoo; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Joan Dudeck of FL and Glenna Wentzloff of Mattawan; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 12:00 PM, in the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3000 West Main St., with Pastor David Sidwell, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. on Friday from 5-8 PM and on Saturday at the church beginning at 11:00 AM until service time. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery, South. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association.
