Wilma Somers

September 5, 1927 — July 16, 2013

SOMERS, WILMA
Wilma Somers, at the age of 85, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on July 16, 2013. She was born on September 5, 1927 on the Lakota Sioux Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota to John and Catherine DeBoer DenBesten. At the age of 13 she moved to Kalamazoo, where she worked and eventually met and married her late husband Donald James Somers. She was a charter member of Southridge Reformed Church. Wilma and Don resided in the Kalamazoo/Portage area until 1985 when they retired and moved to Homosassa, Florida. She would often reminisce about the good times they had with the Angling Road neighborhood where they raised their boys. Once they moved to Florida, Wilma was a companion to many elderly people that she took care of and volunteered several days a week at the Hospice Store of Citrus County where she made numerous new friends. She would travel to Michigan every summer to visit friends and family and to take care of her grandchildren when they were young, which she loved dearly. Wilma was preceded in death by her loving husband in 1992. Wilma is survived by her two sons, Dale Kim Somers of Portage, and Bob Somers girlfriend Denise of Lawton; two grandchildren, Brooke Somers and Heath Somers. A Memorial Service to celebrate Wilma's life will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, August 29, 2013, at Southridge Reformed Church 6726 Texas Drive. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and following the service in the church fellowship hall. Memorial contributions in Wilma's memory can be directed to a Hospice charity of your choice or Southridge Reformed Church.
