William Verastek

VERASTEK, William "Bill"
of Portage Passed away December 4, 2009 at Rose Arbor Hospice Care. He was born August 25, 1919 in Kalamazoo, to the late Paul and Elizabeth Miller Verastek. Bill was united in marriage in 1950, to the former Ann Van Dyke, who survives. Bill served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Air Force on December 8, 1941 the day immediately following Pearl Harbor, until honorably discharged in 1945. Prior to serving in the Air Force, Bill was employed at Milham Park Golf Course, KMGA, for approximately 4 years. Upon his discharge, he resumed his employment at KMGA, remaining with them for 43 more years, the last 30 years as Greens Superintendent, retiring in 1986. Also surviving Bill are; his son, William Scott Jan Verastek; and grandson, Chad Verastek, his pride and joy and a student at the University of Michigan. Also preceding Bill in death was his brother, Paul Verastek. At Bill's request, cremation has taken place. Family will greet friends, Saturday, December 12th from 3-5:00 o'clock at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. No public services are scheduled. Private family burial will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Rose Arbor Hospice Care or Kalamazoo Gospel Mission.
