Of Kalamazoo Bill passed away Tuesday afternoon, October 19, 2010 at Bronson Methodist Hospital. He was born February 7, 1920 in Grundy Center, IA, one of ten children to Benjamin and Grace Kok Veldkamp. Bill was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. On June 16, 1948, he was united in marriage to Norma J. Wolters. After earning his B.S. degree from Calvin College and his M.S. from the University of Michigan, Bill was employed by The Upjohn Co. for 34 years until his retirement; and was a member of Westwood Christian Reformed Church. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Norma Veldkamp; their five children, Jane Al VanDenBosch of Grand Rapids, William Lynn Veldkamp of Henderson, NC, James Linda Veldkamp of Denver, CO, Bruce Linda Veldkamp of Overisel, and Mary James Koning of Kalamazoo; fifteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Fannie VanderHulst of Grand Rapids; two brothers, Arnold Helen Veldkamp of Escondido, CA and Jerry Lois Veldkamp of Hudsonville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers, Bert, Benjamin, Harry and Bernie Veldkamp; and two sisters; Alice Sweiter and Bea Alofs. Funeral services for Bill will be at 11:00 AM on Friday at Westwood Christian Reformed Church, 620 Northampton Road, with Pastor Bill Fernhout officiating. Interment will follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 PM on Thursday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street.
