of Gobles, Michigan On Tuesday, May 13, 2014, surrounded by his family, William was called home to be with his Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ. He was born November 28, 1925 in Kalamazoo and was a longtime resident of the area. William served in the United States Army and was employed by the Upjohn Company as a carpenter, retiring as the supervisor of the carpentry shop. In May of 1986, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Houtman. On May 16, 1987, William married Wilma L. Hyder, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Beverly Bill Clements of Kalamazoo, Jan Steve Bentz of Schoolcraft, David Miriam Janke of Plainwell and Denise Tony Garritano of Vicksburg; 9 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; a brother, Andrew Betty Smith; many nieces and nephews. William was preceded in death by his parents and 11 brothers and sisters. A visitation will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the Calvary Bible Church, 855 S. Drake Rd., where a Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 PM. A private interment will take place in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South. Arrangements by Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St.
