Of Galesburg, MI Walt passed away Monday morning, April 19, 2010 at his home. He was born July 25, 1942 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Ernest and Elizabeth Frakes. Walt was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Vietnam Conflict. He began working for Michigan Bell Telephone Co. in 1968 until his retirement from SBC in 1994. On April 5, 1980, he was united in marriage to Dara Olson Abram. Walt was a 33 year member of the American Legion. He loved to fish and enjoyed restoring cars. In his younger years, Walt raced stock cars. Surviving are his wife, Dara Frakes; two children, Scott Michelle Frakes of Gaylord, MI and Sheri Frakes-Royer of Rudyard, MI; two step-children, Michael Abram of Minneapolis, MN and Julie Jester of Clearwater, FL; eight grandchildren, Andrew and Daniel Frakes, Jamie and Lauren Royer, Burgandy Abram, Clint Jester, and Jennifer and Ryan Knapp. Preceding him in death were his parents; and one son, Timothy Daniel Frakes at birth. Funeral services for Walt will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Comstock Chapel, 6121 King Highway, with Rev. Jim Dyke officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 4-7 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be on Friday at 3:00 PM at Woodlawn Cemetery, Curtis, MI.
