Viola McCarver

June 13, 1912 — February 4, 2007

McCarver, Viola Kalamazoo Age 94 Viola was so very tired; on Sunday February 4, 2007 she closed her eyes and is resting in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Viola was born June 13, 1912 in Fackler, Alabama, the oldest daughter of John Elias Inglis and Mattie Jane Raunsville Inglis. Viola went to school through the seventh grade and while attending school met and fell in love with Ernest James McCarver, They eloped and married on April 2, 1927. Viola was 14 years old and Ernest 15 years old. Viola and Ernest had six children, Ernest James Junior McCarver Betty Alabama, Virgina Isdal Morris Minnesota, Geneva Hills Maynard Kalamazoo, Wayne McCarver Marjorie Portage, Linda J. Gerds Gary Kalamazoo, Leola Garrison Bill of Arizona. Viola was blessed with 19 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 9 great great-grandchildren. Viola was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Curtis and John Herbert Inglis, sister Alberta Benson Lee, her husband Ernest, her children Junior and Virginia, 1 grandchild, 3 great grandchildren and 2 son-in-laws. Viola and Ernest came to Michigan in 1955 to make a better life for their family. Viola was a devoted wife and mother. After her children were in junior high school she went to work at Bronson Hospital as a housekeeper. Viola retired in 1977 ? a retirement she greatly earned. She and Ernest purchased their first home in Kalamazoo and she pursued her love of gardening. Ernest passed away on April 1, 1982 one day short of their 55th wedding anniversary. Shortly after Viola sold her home and moved to Skyrise apartments where she made many new friends. Viola loved crafts and she crocheted towels, tablecloths, afghans which she gave to friends and sold at apartment sales and bazaars. She won many awards for the flowers and garden on her patio during her 20 years at the Skyrise. Viola was a self taught musician who played banjo, guitar, piano, fiddle and harmonica. At the age of 10 she and her father would play at barn dances. Viola touched many lives throughout the years and the world is a better place for her being here. The family would like to thank Dr. Yon Graham and the staff at Promed for their years of kindness, care and love to Viola and Tendercare Westwood for their kindness, love and care. Funeral services for Mrs. McCarver will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street. Private interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mattawan. Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be directed to the family.
