Kalamazoo, MI Died Sunday evening October 4, 2009. Shirley was born July 2, 1919 in Kalamazoo, Michigan a daughter of Hedley and Florence Austin Hord. She had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and was employed with the Upjohn Company for 39 years, retiring in 1982. She was also a member of the Stockbridge United Methodist Church and was a volunteer with Bronson Hospital. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Georgia Packard. She is survived by a niece, Jill VanLuke of Kalamazoo; grand nieces and grand nephews, Holly Tim VeldHof Waldron of Paw Paw, David Mark VanLuke of Paw Paw; great-grand nieces and great nephews, David VanLuke, Wesley VanLuke, Georgia Waldron, William Tiftt; a cousin, Audrey Chet Waszkiewicz Pore of Kalamazoo; and many good friends. Services will be held 11 o'clock Thursday at the Stockbridge United Methodist Church, 1009 Stockbridge Ave. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Private burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Juvenile Diabetes Association or the Stockbridge United Methodist Church.
