Schoolcraft, MI Died March 16, 2015, while vacationing at Orange Beach, Alabama with her husband, John Roundhouse. She was born in Albany, NY, but spent most of her life in Grand Rapids, MI, where she started her musical life with piano and vocal lessons. She married John in May 1957. They lived for three years in Saginaw and attended Midland Reformed Church, where she was the choir director. The next five years were spent in Munich, Germany, where her family traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Middle East before returning to Midland. Two years later her son, Kelly John was born severely handicapped. For the next fourteen years she and John gave of themselves caring for him. During this time she involved herself in the music community singing in the Choral, Show Boat, Man of La Mancha, as well as the witch in Hansel and Gretel. After her husband retired they moved to Kalamazoo, where she sang in the Lakeland Reformed Church Choir, the WMU Choral and the Bach Choir. Throughout her life she was loved by all. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Louis and Alberta Benes; her son, Kelly John Roundhouse; and her brother, Louis Benes. She is survived by her husband, John Roundhouse; son and daughter, Kirk Roundhouse and Kimberly Kime; granddaughters, Paige and Chandler Kime; sister and brother, Dorothy Weiss and Paul Benes; and sister-in-law, Jo Benes. A celebration of Ruth's life will take place at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Lakeland Reformed Church, 10442 Sprinkle Rd., Vicksburg, MI, where friends may visit with the family from 3-4 p.m. Pastor Ed Schmidt will officiate. Memorial contributions may be given to Lakeland Reformed Church.
