Kalamazoo, MI Died Thursday, April 2, 2009 at the age of 95. Rodetta was born February 5, 1914 in Houghton, Michigan the daughter of Randolph & Trix Neidigh Martin. She received her Bachelor's degree from Michigan State College in 1935. She was a teacher in the Newago Public Schools & a substitute teacher in Kalamazoo Public Schools. She was a dedicated volunteer with many local groups. Rodetta was a member of the First Congregational Church, taught Sunday School, & was a member of the Ann Bradford Guild. She was president of the Kalamazoo Girl Scout Council, troop leader & Cub Scout leader. As an honorary member of AAUW, she served as treasurer & was a member of Book Group III for 55 years. Rodetta loved to knit, was a passionate bridge player & enjoyed traveling. Most of all, she lovingly cared for her family her entire life. Rodetta was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard A. Macomber in 1981; her second husband, Edwin E. Petersen in 1993; 2 brothers, Rex & Leslie Martin; and a sister, Mary Ruth Pedigo. She is survived by 3 children, Jerome Patricia Macomber of Waterford, MI, Julianne "Jill" Anderson of Boulder, CO, and Ronald Mary Macomber of S. Sioux City, NE; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. Rodetta is lovingly survived by her beloved friends & "care-giving family" of Friendship Village & Woodside. A memorial service will be held 3:30 Friday in the KIVA at Friendship Village, 1400 N. Drake Rd., with Rev. Matthew W. Laney, officiating. Friends may meet the family before & after the service. Cremation has taken place. Memorials may be directed to Friendship Village Friend's Fund or the First Congregational Church.
