Richard Nap

Richard Nap, age 94, passed away Friday, November 11, 2013, in Kalamazoo. Richard was born August 29, 1919 in Kalamazoo, the son of Thomas and Gertrude Sootsma Nap. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army. Richard was a 39 year employee of the Kalamazoo Gazette where he was a linotype operator. He was a member of North Park Reformed Church in his youth. In later life he was a 50 year member of First Reformed Church of Kalamazoo and Second Reformed Church of Kalamazoo. He enjoyed spending time playing golf, traveling and rooting for the Tigers. Richard was a very caring and giving person who enjoyed life. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Nap Daoust; an infant brother and a sister Marguerite Glerum. Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Gertrude VanderMolen Nap of Kalamazoo. Also surviving is his son Philip Nap of Parchment. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 18th from 1-2 PM on Monday, November 18th at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 South Burdick Street, where funeral services will be held beginning at 2:00 PM Monday with Rev. Kevin Hart officiating. A private interment will be held in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park North. Memorials in Richard's name may be directed to the Second Reformed Church building fund.
