Raymond Schipper

SCHIPPER, Raymond G.
Of Kalamazoo Sunday evening, January 9, 2011 Ray peacefully passed away at home. He was born May 18, 1925 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the son of Gerrit and Jeltina Doorn Schipper who immigrated to the U.S. in 1920. After 40 years in Accounting for KVP Sutherland, Aeromotive, and Superior Business Forms, Ray retired in 1995. Over the years Ray was actively involved in refereeing Kalamazoo Men's City Basketball, scorekeeping for Men's Softball, distance running and volunteering for the American Red Cross. He also volunteered at church, was active at the YMCA and worked as a starter at Eastern Hills Golf Course. Golf was a passion and he could frequently be found on the golf course playing or working. In 1949 Ray and Beverly Van Overloop were united in marriage. Surviving are their children, Bridget Schipper of Birmingham, MI and Daniel and Nancy Chapman Schipper of Novi, MI; Grandchildren Casey Leigh Schipper, Kirsten Marie Schipper, and Jacob Raymond Schipper; sister Skip Keyser and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his wife, parents and six brothers and sisters. Memorial services for Ray will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Third Christian Reformed Church, 2400 Winchell Avenue, with Rev. Dr. Kenneth A. Baker and Rev. Margaret J. Jenista officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 5-8 p.m. Friday evening at Langeland Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Red Cross or Paralyzed Veterans of America.
