Quentin Howard

Quentin passed away at Rose Arbor Hospice, with his family attending, on Wednesday, November 19, 2014. He was born August 15, 1928 in Detroit, MI to Turner and Elsie Flagg Howard, but lived most of his life in Kalamazoo. He was a graduate of State High and worked for Consumers Power Company on the tree cleaning crew for new power lines. Then he was owner/operator of Acme Tree Service for over 40 years until he retired and sold it to his son in 1998. Earlier in life, he was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in downtown Kalamazoo and drove the Sunday School Bus. He loved traveling, camping, boating, dune rides, parades and watching the waves at Lake Michigan. In his younger years, he loved riding motorcycles and piloting small planes. In later years, he enjoyed meeting with friends for coffee at Harding's and the once a week dinner with the Widow/Widowers Support Group. He made very special friends at Da Vita dialysis and Sophia's House of Pancakes, where he often ate. On February 17, 1951, he was united in marriage to Lois Hoyt and together they raised 4 children. After her death, he met his second love & companion, Pat Kovach. He is survived by his children, Pamela Verne Waterman, Cynthia Howard, Wayne Danielle Howard and Timothy Penney Howard; grandchildren, Kelly Randy Homic, Kyle Waterman, Adam Brittany Harden, Ben Harden, Brooke Howard, Brandon Howard and Natalie Howard; great-grandchildren, Stanley Quentin Homic and Raigan Harden; sisters, Linda Leonard, Beverly John Pike, Marcia Howard, Ruth Ann Art Randall; and a brother, Ted Karen Howard. Sisters-in-law, Eva Pedersen and Janet John Buss and brothers-in-law, Warren Hoyt and Ernie Hoyt; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 43 years, Lois Hoyt Howard and his companion, Pat Kovach. At his request, cremation and private burial will take place at Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery, South. A gathering for family and friends will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2014 in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St from 1:00 PM until 4:00PM. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, November 24, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the Calvary Bible Church, 855 S. Drake Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or The WMU Foundation, 1903 W. Michigan Ave., Kalamazoo, MI 49008-9947 - ATTN: Development Office-5403; for the Bradley James Midgett Memorial Scholarship Fund.
