Phyllis Brockie

Passed away December 28, 2010 at the Laurels of Galesburg. Phyllis was born July 28, 1927 in Kalamazoo, MI, daughter of Willis and Mae Schoolcraft Monroe and was a lifelong resident here. She was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School, Class of 1945. She attended Kindergarten at Woodward Elementary School and still met with her classmates once a month. Phyllis retired from the Upjohn Company after several years of employment. She enjoyed traveling, watching Westerns on TV and was active at the Portage Senior Center. She enjoyed going to the Theatre and was a member of the New Vic Theater. She served as a pilot in the Civil Air Patrol during World War II. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and by 2 sisters, Verna Rose Monroe and Wilma Hodapp. Surviving are her former husband William Brockie; 2 daughters and 1 son, Denise Brockie of Kalamazoo, Carol Roger Mucha of Portage and Roy Lynn Brockie of Grand Rapids; 3 grandchildren, Kyle and Daniel Mucha and Walker Brockie; 2 nephews and 1 niece, Marvin, Rob and Billie Lou. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 1 pm on Monday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Center Ave. with funeral services to immediate to follow at 2:00 pm. Private interment in Mt. Ever-Rest North Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions in Phyllis's memory be made to Hospice Care of S.W. Michigan, Parkinson's Foundation of Michigan, Portage Senior Center or the New Vic Theatre. Please visit www.langelands.com to sign the online register book and leave a condolence to the family.
