Kalamazoo Passed away Sunday morning, August 10, 2014 with family by her side. Pat was born May 23, 1932 in Kalamazoo the daughter of James and Gemma Marchi Buist. She earned a Master's degree from Western Michigan University and spent over 30 years teaching in the Kalamazoo Public Schools; and prior to that taught for a few years in Japan and Wisconsin. She was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church and volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul. Pat also enjoyed reading, and spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Heeter; brothers, Robert Buist, Richard "Dick" Buist; niece and nephew, Chris Heeter and Mary Heeter-Ellis. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Helen Buist; nieces and nephews, Carol Heeter, Mike Ellis, Jan Paul Drake, Anne Heeter, Jim Judy Heeter, Dan Susan Heeter, Sherry Dan Kettenbeil, Terry Buist, Robin Jeff Hiller, Nancy Buist, Jim Susan Buist; several great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering will be held Tuesday from 5:30-7:30pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick. A Rosary service will be held at 10:30am followed by a memorial mass at 11:00am Wednesday, August 13 at St. Monica Catholic Church, 534 W. Kilgore Rd. Private interment will be held at a later date in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Vincent DePaul or the charity of your choice.
