Oshtemo Passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2009. Nancy was born January 17, 1950 in Flint, MI, a daughter of George and Betty Darlington Gates and was a resident of the Oshtemo area for many years. She was employed by the United States Postal Service for over 35 years, 27 of which she served as the Post Master of the Mattawan Post Office. Nancy was the spirit of the family as a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was close to her daughter and grandchildren. Nancy had an entrepreneurial spirit and shared that with her daughter, Rachelle, in a business called LU's, a liquidating company. She was preceded in death by her father. Her survivors include her husband of 24 years, Frank Farthing, whom she married on August 31, 1985; her daughter, Rachelle Schuster, of Lawton; her grandchildren, Travis Schuster and Samantha Schuster; her mother, Betty Gates of Grand Junction; a sister, Linda Jens Torp of Grand Junction; a brother, George Gates of Grand Junction; 2 nieces, Shelly Lizak and Stacey Cork; and 2 nephews, Mark and Robert Torp. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2:00 PM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. with Pastor David Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mattawan. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 PM and on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
