Of Kalamazoo Maxine was called home by her Lord and Savior on Thursday April 21, 2011 where she is now united, in the spirit, with her husband of 54 years. Maxine was born January 9, 1926 in Champaign, Illinois to Ira and Helen Bogue Griffet. At the time of her death Maxine was eighty-five years, three months and twelve days old. Maxine was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church and spent many years as a Sunday school teacher. More recently, she was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was under their care at the time of her death. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, several brothers and sisters and her husband Walter who died in 1997. At the time of her death Maxine was a resident of Alamo Nursing Home where she was attended to by a dedicated and loving staff. Maxine is survived by one brother Raymond Jack Griffet of St. Joseph, Illinois, her daughter Helen Phil Roekle, two grandchildren Christopher Trish Roekle and Kimberly Roekle Dolak and two great-grandchildren Audra and Michael Roekle all of Kalamazoo. Funeral services for Maxine will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3000 West Main Street, where friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until the time of services. Private interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Alamo Nursing Home.
