Kalamazoo Max Konigsberg passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at home, under the wonderful care of Hospice and surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 5, 1920 in East Grand Rapids, MI the son of Samuel and Ida Miller Konigsberg and had lived in Kalamazoo for 43 years. Prior to moving to Kalamazoo, Max lived in Battle Creek, where he owned and operated the family business, Sam?s Cut Rate Michigan Bargain Store and in Kalamazoo he worked for the Postal Service for 17 years. During WW II he served his country in the United States Army Air Corps. Max was a member of the Congregation of Moses, where he was a member of the Men?s Club. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the AARP and Max and Shirley were members of Kazoo Campers for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Shirley Ruth and infant son, in 1954; a grandson, Sean Hennessy in 1981; three brothers, Archie, Manuel and Sidney; and his sister, Simone Brod. Surviving are his wife, the former Shirley Putnam Hennessy, of Kalamazoo; his children, Eric Lisa Konigsberg of Kalamazoo, Anna Daniel Appel of Ft. Wayne, IN, Alysia Konigsberg of Kalamazoo and Pamela Steven Laffer of Manlius, NY; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; two step-children, Patricia James Mc Keever of Hertford, NC and Michael Cheryl Hennessy of Ada, MI; several nieces and nephews. Religious services will be held on Friday at 11:30 AM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. with Rabbi Harvey Spivak officiating. Interment will follow in Jewish Riverside Cemetery. The family would like to acknowledge Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan for the wonderful care that was given to Max in his last days and requests that memorials be given to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan. www.langelands.com 343-1508
