07/01/1934 - 03/11/2015 MaryAnn passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, March 11, 2015 at her home in Texas Township surrounded by the love of her family. MaryAnn was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 1, 1934, daughter of the late Elmer and Grace Lively McKinney. MaryAnn's parents moved to Lawton, Michigan where she attended Lawton High School. Later, while employed at St. Regis Paper Company, MaryAnn fell in love with and married Raymond Hugh Steadmon on February 26, 1956, who survives. In 2006, Ray and MaryAnn celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by attending a church service with their family at the church where they were married in Bristol, Indiana. Recently, Ray and MaryAnn celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary together. MaryAnn's dream in life was to have a family and her love for her family was evident every day of her life. From her union with Ray, she was blessed with three children, Raymond Dale Robin Steadmon of Lawton, Patricia Ann Daniel Thompson of Kalamazoo, and JoAnn Matthew Stevens of Mattawan. MaryAnn was also blessed with six grandchildren, Raymond Carl Amber Steadmon, Rachel Choein Steadmon, Scott Steadmon Thompson, Stacy AnnMarie Thompson, Samantha Jo Stevens and Brody James Stevens. MaryAnn felt especially blessed with the birth of her great-granddaughter Lilliana Ray Steadmon. In addition to her parents, MaryAnn was preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses, Kenneth Ruth McKinney, Helen Flavian Arseneau and Betty Michael Glowacz and several aunts, uncles and cousins. MaryAnn loved her family with all her heart and was very active in her children and grandchildren's lives. She was a Sunday School Teacher at First Congregational Church in Mattawan, a Cub Scout Leader, managed Little League Concessions for Texas Corners Little League, she sewed uniforms for her daughter's cheerleading squad and chaperoned many school field trips. MaryAnn 's love for children was evident as she was a caregiver for many children of families in the community. She enjoyed country music and she loved working in her flowers and was especially proud of her beautiful hybrid irises. Although MaryAnn taught her family many life lessons through her love, strong faith and compassion, she will always be remembered for her love of desserts and for teaching her grandchildren at an early age to "always eat dessert first." At MaryAnn's request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 15 beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street where a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. MaryAnn's cremains will be interred at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date.
