Marvin Slager

SLAGER, Marvin
of Kalamazoo Passed away November 28, 2010 at Bronson Hospital. He was born December 5, 1919 in Kalamazoo to the late Albert and Lena Van Voorst Slager. Marvin married the former Beatrice Nicol in 1946 in Kalamazoo, for a loving 64 years together. Beatrice survives. Marvin served as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during WWII, in the Pacific theatre, from November of 1943 until honorably discharged in February of 1946. A devoted Christian, he was a lifelong member of Trinity Reformed Church, where he served as deacon, elder, choir member and Sunday School teacher. He was employed with Horne Building Specialists for 26 years. Marvin loved to spend time with his grandchildren, especially watching their sporting activities. He also enjoyed carpentry, hunting, fishing and the game of golf. Also surviving Marvin are his children, Linda Bradley Fonger of Grosse Pointe Park, MI, Marvin L. Slager of Evergreen, CO, and Vicki James Thompson of Portage; 7 grandchildren, Dr. Evan Nicole Fonger, Cullen Kristy Fonger, Andrew Slager, Amy Slager, Shannon Thompson, Chelsea David Guy and Holly Thompson; sisters, Jean Mochmer and Annetta Stuut; and many nieces and nephews. Also preceding Marvin in death was a sister, Betty Lopez. Family will greet friends Tuesday, November 30th, from 6-8:00 o'clock at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Funeral service will take place Wednesday, 11:00 o'clock at Trinity Reformed Church, Rev. Kevin Kleinheksel, officiating. A private burial will take place at Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery.
