KIEWIET, Marie
of Kalamazoo Went to be with her Lord Saturday December 5, 2009 at Tendercare of Kalamazoo with her family by her side. She was born September 8, 1921 in Kalamazoo, to the late Jozias and Katherine VanGemert DeVisser. Marie was a longtime member of Third Reformed Church and was a volunteer for many years at the Borgess Hospital Cardiac Surgery Reception Area. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family. Marie was united in marriage on January 23, 1942, to Johannes "Joe" Kiewiet, who preceded her in death in 1997. She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers and sister, Abe and Adrian DeVisser, and Dena Beeke. Surviving Marie are her children, Joan Dennis Sitkiewicz of California, Robert Gayle Kiewiet of California, Dennis Sue Kiewiet of Michigan, Carol Ellis Wheeler of North Carolina, David Kiewiet and friend Tammy Simpson of Kalamazoo; 6 grandchildren, Donald Williamson, Nancy Lance Harding, Jason Missy Williamson, Karen Cary Christopher, Scott Kiewiet and fiancée Tara Ramsey and Mike Amy Kiewiet; 3 great granddaughters, Elizabeth Marie Williamson, Vanessa Marie Harding, Lily Kay Christopher; brother, Henry Agnes DeVisser; and several nieces, nephews, and close friends. Friends may meet the family this evening from 6-8pm and Tuesday from 10-11:00 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. where services will take place at 11:00 o'clock Tuesday. Private family interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the charity of your choice.
