JOHNSON, John William
Of Vicksburg, MI John went home to be with his Lord on Friday evening, September 11, 2009 following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 6, 1955, in Kalamazoo, the son of Garrett and Teressa Corstange Johnson and was a lifelong area resident. He was currently employed with Pfizer for the past 35 years. John was an active member of Lakeland Reformed Church where he served as elder and deacon. He devoted his life to public service including Mall City Ambulance, Vicksburg Fire Department where he had served as Assistant Fire Chief, South Kalamazoo County Fire Authority, Schoolcraft Township Board and parking enforcer for the City of Portage. On May 14, 1977, he was united in marriage to Peggy Ann Arbuckle, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Daniel Marie Johnson of Burr Oak, Timothy Johnson of Cedar and Sarah Rolly Taylor of Stevensville; two grandchildren, Gavin and Garrett Johnson; his mother, Teressa Johnson of Kalamazoo; three sisters, Patricia Thomas Glerum of Kalamazoo, Marilyn Richard DeVisser of Kalamazoo and Linda Rick Graf of Plano, TX; mother-in-law, Roberta Pfau; in-laws, Ronald Arbuckle, Scott Arbuckle, Tammy Espinosa, Kelly Donovan; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. A Funeral Service will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday at the Lakeland Reformed Church 10442 Sprinkle Rd with Rev. Ed Schmidt officiating. Interment will be held in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Memorials in John's memory may be directed to Hospice Care of SW Michigan or Lakeland Reformed Church. www.langelands.com
