John Izenbaard

IZENBAARD, JOHN
of Portage John Izenbaard, age 91, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May, 15, 2013. John was born April 27, 1922, in Comstock, the son of Markus and Lena Boonstra Izenbaard. He has been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and had served in the U.S. Army during WW II from 1942-44. In 1938, John began working at Hoekstra True Value Hardware Store in Kalamazoo and just celebrated his 75th anniversary of employment with the same company. He was a longtime charter member of Prairie Edge Christian Reformed Church where he had served as Elder and had taught Sunday School for 53 years. John had also served on the South Christian School and Kalamazoo Christian High School Boards and Building Committees. On October 4, 1946, John was united in marriage to Irene VanderKlok Izenbaard, who survives. Also surviving are their three children, Cheryl Robert Heerlyn of Portage, Thomas Katherine Izenbaard of Scotts, and John Susan Izenbaard of Vicksburg; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a sister, Nellie Marvin Feddes and several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Edward, Andrew, Donald and Marvin Izenbaard. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Monday, May 20th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 21st at Prairie Edge Christian Reformed Church 9316 Oakland Dr. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South. In lieu of flowers, memorials in John's memory may be directed to World Renew, Kalamazoo Christian School Association, or Prairie Edge Christian Reformed Church. Jesus said in John 11:25-26 "I am the Resurrection, and the Life; he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die."
