Johanna Gritter

Gritter, Johanna of Kalamazoo, Michigan Went to her Heavenly Home on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the age of 83. Johanna was born in the Netherlands on February 7, 1931, the daughter of the late Abram and Grace Smit Glas. She came to this country with her family in April of 1949. She was a longtime member of Second Christian Reformed Church. She enjoyed volunteering for numerous organizations, flower gardening, knitting and traveling. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Arie Gritter; children, Marvin Susan Gritter of Kalamazoo, Jeff Judy Gritter of Kalamazoo, Mark Cherri Gritter of Plainwell and Joel Jody Gritter of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, Nicole and Steve Balkema, Luke Gritter, Benjamin Gritter, Molly Gritter, Logan Gritter, Andrea Gritter, Mallori Gritter, Michael Lawrence, Mitchell Lawrence, Grace Gritter and Collin Gritter; great-grandchildren, Emma, Corbin and Harper Balkema; brothers and sisters, Jake Carol Glas , Grace Mulder, and Joe Glas all of Kalamazoo; sisters-in-law, Alie Glas of Kentwood, and Sena Glas of Kalamazoo; cousins, Jim and Grace Pestoor of Kalamazoo; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sister, Nick Glas, Abe Glas, John Glas and Annie Glas; sisters-in-law, Tres Glas and Martha Glas; and brother-in-law, Art Mulder. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2014 at Second Christian Reformed Church, 3015 Nichols Rd. Rev. Dr. Warren E. Lammers will officiate with burial in Alamo Center Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Second Christian Reformed Church or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
