BEEKE, JOHANNA Mrs. Beeke passed away early Monday morning, July 23, 2012, at home after a lengthy illness. She will be sorely missed by her family, who are deeply grateful for her godly walk of life in Christ, especially for her prayers. She was born on March 2, 1920, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of the late Johannes and Adriana VanPopering VanStrien. Johanna was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and Parsons Business School. She was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation. On September 5, 1939, she was united in marriage to John Beeke, who preceded her in death on March 14, 1993. She is survived by her five children, Jacqueline David Markus of Kalamazoo, John Marie Beeke of Fonthill, Ontario, James Ruth Beeke of Rosedale, British Columbia, Dr. Joel Mary Beeke of Grand Rapids and Joanna Stephen Timmer of Kalamazoo; thirty-five grandchildren; ninety-two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother-in-law, Peter Dorothy Beeke; sister-in-law, Dena Beeke and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 26th from 6-8PM and on Friday, July 27th from 1-3 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, July 28th at 11:00 AM in the Calvary Bible Church Sanctuary 855 South Drake Rd. with her son, Dr. Joel Beeke officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park South. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made either to Providence Christian School in Kalamazoo or to the Puritan Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids, MI. "But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him" I Thessalonians 4:13, 14
