Of Portage Died Friday morning, October 5, 2012 at Park Place Assisted Living. Jacoba was born January 15, 1918 in Kalamazoo, MI the daughter of Christian and Anna Zylstra VanLoo. She had been a lifelong resident of Portage and Kalamazoo. Cobie was a member of Bethany Reformed Church. She enjoyed playing tennis, golf, bowling and watching Cubs and Atlanta Braves baseball. Cobie was a member of the KWGA and the Baguettes Golf League and was known as the "Cookie Lady" as no round was complete without some homemade cookies and lemonade. She also enjoyed quilting and made quilts for her family, many babies, and her granddaughter's dolls. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband whom she married on May 3, 1940, George R. Dick Peters on September 29, 2002; her brother Dick VanLoo, sisters, Cornelia Kinney, Anne Youngblood- Myers, Christine Kruizenga, and Hilda VandenBosch. She is survived by her four children, Barbara Bommersbach, Robert A. Peters, Charlotte Tom Stohrer and Donna Hushower, two grandchildren, Catherine and Karen Stohrer, and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the past and present staff at Park Place buildings A & E and Hospice of South West Michigan for their care and support. Friends may meet the family Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre. Private family interment will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery on Tuesday morning. A Memorial service will be held at Bethany Reformed Church, 1833 South Burdick St, Kalamazoo, MI on Tuesday at 2 P.M with Rev. Fritz Kruithof officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission, or to Hospice of S. W. Michigan.
