Of Kalamazoo Irma passed away Sunday morning, May 16, 2010 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. She was born April 17, 1918 in Lansing, IL, one of eight children to Wilhem and Minna Küster Barkow. She was united in marriage to Elmer R. Stanhope of Hart, MI on August 15, 1943. They lived in Lansing, IL where they raised their family until retiring to Hart, MI in 1973. She later moved to Kalamazoo in 1989 following Elmer's passing in 1981. She was a life long member of the Lutheran Church and locally a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Kalamazoo. She enjoyed reading, embroidery, baking, and being social. Preceding her in death were her husband, Elmer; one son, Charles Stanhope in 2002; and seven brothers and sisters. Surviving are four children, E. Raymond Ann Stanhope of Palm Coast, FL, Aaron Linda Stanhope of Grand Haven, Joyce Gary Cialdella of Kalamazoo, and Carol John Jones of Diamond Bar, CA; thirteen grandchildren, George Kim Stanhope, Elizabeth Michael Gordon, Mary Mike Murphy, Cindy Greene, Stephen Cynthia Taines Stanhope, Nathan Cammie Stanhope, Anne Joe Marsan, Michael Stanhope, Joseph Cialdella, Christopher Cialdella, Robert Jones, Richard Jones, and Jeffery Jones; fifteen great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Nancy Stanhope; and special friend, Alice Laborde. Funeral services for Irma will be at 12:00 PM on Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, 2122 Bronson Blvd, with Rev. Larry Brelje officiating, where friends may visit from 11:00 AM until the time of services. Family interment will be on Thursday in Hart Cemetery, Hart, MI.
