WAKELAND, Irene
of Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away March 11, 2009 at Borgess Medical Center. She was born December 29, 1915 in Moline, IL to the late Louis and Mary Ellen DeSmit Viaene. She was united in marriage on September 9, 1936, to Warren F. "Pete" Wakeland, who preceded her in death in 1992. She liked to play cards, bingo and go to the casino. Surviving Irene are her children, Warren Jean Wakeland of Kalamazoo, Billy Phyllis Wakeland of Kalamazoo and Jim Kenda Wakeland of Kalamazoo; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; sisters, Helen Miller; and several nieces and nephews. Services will take place Saturday, 1:00pm from the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St., where family will also greet friends prior to services, from 11-1:00pm. Entombment will follow at Mt. Ever-Rest Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association.
