Henry "Hank" Griffioen

GRIFFIOEN, HENRY "Hank" Henry "Hank" Griffioen, age 83, went home to be with his Lord on September 23, 2014. Hank was born August 9, 1931, in Kalamazoo, the son of the late Henry and Cornelia VanDalen Griffioen. He was a long time resident of Portage and had worked as a brick mason for most of his life. Hank was a self-employed mason and had been employed by Miller Davis for many years. He also had served as a Portage Fireman and as a Schoolcraft Police Officer. Hank was a member of the Texas Corners Bible Church. He was an avid outdoorsman and always enjoyed tinkering with projects or helping others. On August 18, 1950, he was married to Henrietta Tillema Griffioen, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Dennis Kathleen Griffioen, Timothy Tanya Griffioen and Larry Missy Griffioen; 9 grandchildren, Melissa Gene Seager, Brad Debbie Griffioen, Jason Kim Ritchie, Joel Casey Swisher, Nathan Tara Griffioen, Timianne Erik Sebright, Amy Matthew Grieser, Rick Jen Schultz Griffioen and Jason Talbot; 11 great-grandchildren; Brandon, Erin, Carter, Anna, Tyler, Sierra, Colin, Ava, Gavin, Iylah and David; several in-laws and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 3 siblings, John Griffioen, Henrietta Kloosterman and Maudy Hackett. The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, September 29th at Texas Corners Bible Church 7780 South 8th St with Rev. David Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 10:00-11:00AM. A private family burial will be in Portage South Cemetery. Memorials in Hank's memory may be directed to Texas Corners Bible Church.
