KLOOSTERMAN, Harry
of Kalamazoo, Michigan Went to be with his Lord Wednesday morning, March 12, 2014. Harry was born November 9, 1923 in Kalamazoo the son of the late Elias and Lena Izenbaard Kloosterman and had been a life resident in the area. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he earned various awards including the Purple Heart. Harry was a longtime member of Grace Christian Reformed Church. Prior to his retirement in 1985 he was employed with the Kalamazoo Public Schools. On June 14, 1946 he was united in marriage to his loving wife Catherine, who preceded him in death on November 23, 2002. He was also preceded in death by 7 siblings. Harry is survived by 3 daughters, Ruth Dick Durian, Mary Darwin Wellington, Joyce John Barkley; 4 grandchildren, Richard Beth Durian, Matthew Lisa Durian, Michael Barkley, Michelle Barkley; 5 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Claire, LillieAnn, Richelle, and Nicolas; sisters and brother, Lena Doherty, Josephine VanderRoest, and Robert Tillie Kloosterman; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Friends may meet the family on Tuesday March 18, from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre. Services will be held Wednesday March 19, at 11:00am at the Grace Christian Reformed Church, 1724 Whites Rd, with Rev. Greg Timmer and Rev. Dr. Harry Arnold officiating. A private family graveside will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the DAV, the Wounded Warrior Project, Alzheimer's Association, or the charity of your choice.
