Kalamazoo, MI Died Sunday afternoon March 8, 2009. Harriet was born July 30, 1912 in Portland, Oregon a daughter of Guy and Florence Dewey Tyler. She had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and was employed with the Gift Loft for 12 years. Harriet was also a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur D. Gilchrist on September 1, 2000; and a sister, Esther Grabber. She is survived by 2 sons, Dan Gilchrist of Phoenix, AZ and James Virginia Wilson Gilchrist of Toronto, Canada; 2 grandsons, Ryan and Andrew Marta Gilchrist; a great-grandson, Iain Gilchrist; a sister, Natalie Kollig of Kalamazoo; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held 1 o'clock Thursday in the chapel at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 247 W. Lovell Street. There will be no visitation. Private interment will take place in the church columbarium at a later date. Memorials maybe directed to the St. Luke's Memorial Fund.
