Of Kalamazoo, Michigan Grace died Wednesday evening, February 17, 2010, at Rose Arbor Hospice. She was born in Kalamazoo on January 5, 1916, to John and Katie DeVries. An accomplished porcelain artist and teacher, she served as president of Michiana Porcelain Artists' Association, was a charter member of Bethel Reformed Church, a long time member of Third Reformed Church, and for the past thirty years has been a member of Second Reformed Church. On April 15, 1935, she was united in marriage to Garret Orbeck, who preceded her in death on March 13, 2003. Surviving are four daughters, Jo and John Klok of Kalamazoo; Janet and Peter Johnson of Whitehall; Mary and Thomas Schrader of Mendon; Susan and Alec Cumming of Mattawan; a son, Garret A. and Valerie Orbeck of Benton, AR; seven grandchildren, Alan and Donna Klok, Kathleen Knipp, David Klok, Brock Schrader, Kathryn and Ryan Lukeman, Sara Jane Stephens, Benjamin Stephens; two great-grandchildren Elizabeth and Charlotte Knipp; two brothers, Roland and Carrie DeVries and Raymond and Crystal DeVries; four sisters-in-law, Anna, Leora, Marian, and Sylvia; and many nieces and nephews. Grace was preceded in death by six brothers. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-5 P.M. at Langeland Family Funeral Home, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. A memorial service will be held on Monday at 11 A.M. at Second Reformed Church, 2323 Stadium Drive with the Rev. Kevin V. Hart officiating. Private graveside services will be held in Genesee Prairie Cemetery. Memorials should be directed to Second Reformed Church or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
