Kalamazoo Miss Hassing passed away Wednesday morning, January 2, 2008 at Tendercare of Kalamazoo. She was born February 4, 1919 in Kalamazoo, one of two daughters to Siebrand and Jennie DeHaan Hassing. Grace was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and Parsons Business School, and a member of Third Reformed Church. She was employed by First of Michigan Corporation for 45 years until her retirement in 1999. Surviving are her sister, Johanna Henry Yzenbaard of Kalamazoo; five nieces and nephews, Marilyn Calvin Meeusen of Grand Haven, Thomas Yzenbaard of Portage, Joyce Yzenbaard of Homer, Alaska, Shirley Michael Lohrberg of Kalamazoo, and William Jill Yzenbaard of Jackson; 12 great-nieces and nephews; and many cousins and friends. Services for Miss Hassing will be at 3:00 PM on Friday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 1:00 PM until the time of services at the funeral home. Private interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park.
