Gerrit Kloosterman

KLOOSTERMAN, Gerrit, ?Gare? Portage Entered into Glory, Monday, May 21, 2007. He was born December 2, 1928 in Kalamazoo, the son of John and Grace Boogholt Kloosterman and was a lifelong resident of Portage. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Gare was a member of the Grace Christian Reformed Church, was an avid golfer and bowler and excelled in making garlic dill pickles. He owned and operated K-M Tile & Marble for 10 years, and retired from KRPH, after 20 years of service in the engineering department. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard Kloosterman; and a grandson, Steven Mark Zigterman. On October 4, 1956 Gare married the former Shirley Anne Roundhouse, who survives. Also surviving are their children, Jo Ann Mark Zigterman of Portage, Thomas Pamela Kloosterman of Plainwell, Janice Ronald Evenhouse of Three Rivers, Timothy Kathy Kloosterman of Mattawan, Jenny John, III Cook of Kalamazoo; 15 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 6 brothers, John Nellie Kloosterman of Kalamazoo, Henry Kloosterman of Portage, Walter Hennie Kloosterman of Kalamazoo, Martin Beverly Kloosterman of Kalamazoo, James Kloosterman of Kalamazoo and Robert Ann Kloosterman of Norton Shores, MI; two sisters, Katherine Dale Redecker of Kalamazoo and Henrietta Henry Amey of The Villages, FL; a sister-in-law, Antoinette Kloosterman of Kalamazoo; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Richard Donna Roundhouse; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Garrett Evelyn Broekhuizen; a former sister-in-law, Margaret Brussee of Kalamazoo; several nieces, nephews and cousins, including a dear cousin, Henrietta Clupper. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, at Grace Christian Reformed Church, 1724 Whites Road, with the Rev. Drs. Joseph Brinks and Harry Arnold officiating. Private family interment will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Memorial contributions may be directed to Grace Christian Reformed Church Evangelism Committee, the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission or PCOC.
