Formerly of Kalamazoo, MI Passed away Sunday May 24, 2009. Gerard was born October 27, 1927 in Kalamazoo the son Marinus and Maatja Stryd Meeuwse. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army in the Japanese Occupation from 1945-1947. Prior to his retirement in 1984 he was employed with the Upjohn Company for 35 years. Gerard attended the Netherlands Reformed Congregation; he volunteered and served on the Board of Directors with Park Village Pines. He also volunteered his time with Kalamazoo Coalition for the Protection of Children and Family; and Bronson Hospital. In his spare time Gerard enjoyed spending time with his family and being in his garden. On December 20, 1949 he was united in marriage to the former Dena Yzenbaard who survives. Also surviving are 2 children, David Barbara Meeuwse of Hopkins, Mary Roger Hull of Oak Harbor, WA; 7 grandchildren, Nicole Meeuwse, Nathan Natasia Meeuwse, Joshua Rachel Meeuwse, Elizabeth Matthew Nienhuis, Lynne Ian Remijn, Kristin Theron Johnston, and Caleb Hull; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother, Nellie Meeuwse of The Netherlands, Tony Lena Meeuwse of Portage, Mary Anthony Bolle of The Netherlands, C. Lara Meeuwse of Kalamazoo; sister-in-law, Nettie Meeuwse of Portage; and several nieces and nephews. Gerard was preceded in death by a brother, Jacob Meeuwse in 2000. Services will be held 2:00 o'clock Friday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street with Dr. Joel Beeke officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Friends may meet the family Thursday evening from 6-8pm at the Westside Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Park Village Pines, the Kalamazoo Coalition for Protection of Children and Family, or the charity of your choice. www.langelands.com
