ROACH, F. BARCKLEY, MAJOR, USMC
Passed away July 19, 2013. He was born January 20, 1942 in Muskegon, MI., the son of Floyd M. Roach and Violet B. Roach. He was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Portage. Major Roach served his country in Vietnam. He was Company Commander with F Co, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. Additionally, Major Roach was commanding officer of two Marine Reserve Units: Bridge Company, 6th Engineer Support Battalion, with its headquarters in Battle Creek, MI and Marine Company B, 6th Engineer Support Battalion, South Bend, Indiana. He loved hunting, fishing, the outdoors and the art of history. Mr. Roach taught in Portage Public Schools for over 30 years and coached hockey, track and cross country. Barckley enjoyed singing and music of all kinds, especially barbershop. He was a member of many singing groups through out his life that included: The Port City Chorus of Muskegon, The Ferris State University "Ferris Wheels" and Men's Glee Club, The Mall City Harmonizers of Kalamazoo and his barbershop quartet "Harmony Counts". He married Joyce Elaine Rosema December 3, 1993, who survives. Also surviving are his children: Kelly Roach Claar of Wilton, CA, Patrick M. Roach of Mobile, AL, Sean B. Roach of Fairbanks, AK, Michael R. Leeds of San Francisco, CA, David M. Leeds of Seattle, WA.; brother, Robert Roach of Park Falls WI.; eleven grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and the people whose lives he touched. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Center Ave. on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 from 2-6 PM. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at the funeral home. Interment, with the rendering of full Military Honors, will take place at 2:30 PM Thursday, at Fort Custer National Cemetery, in Augusta, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The Wounded Warriors Foundation, www.woundedwarrorproject.org, The Marine Corps Toys for Tots Campaign www.toysfortots.org or the charity of your choice.
