Passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014. Ernest was born March 29. 1938 in Kalamazoo, the son of the late Edward and Ellen Gibson Hamilton and was a lifelong resident of Texas Township. Ernest was employed by General Motors for 30 years as a powerhouse repairman. Ernest's passion was farming. Over the years, he raised chickens, cattle and grain crops. In later years, he raised and sold hay. On March 21. 1964, he married Marilyn Davis, who survives. He is also survived by their children, Edward H. Hamilton of Paw Paw and Denise Hamilton of Portage; grandchildren, Christopher and Annalie Hamilton; a brother, Jack Knapp of VA; and a brother-in-law, Leo Davis. He was preceded in death by his brother, Andrew in 2013; sister-in-law, Ann; his son, John in 2008. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., with Pastor James Dyke, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, March 25 at the funeral home. Interment will take place in the Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, Residential Opportunities Inc. or The Ark Community Advocates.
