TURNER, Elsie
Elsie Turner, age 94, formerly of Kalamazoo, passed away December 16, 2013 in Hastings. She was born December 15, 1919 to the late Jacob and Elsie Kathleen Milham Benzenberg. Elsie was a resident of the Kalamazoo area for the majority of her life. In her early years, she was very active in the Portage St Baptist Church choirs, vacation bible school, was the president of the Baptist Young People's Union, and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Later she was employed by Dr. James Simonds for 20 years, retiring in 1979. Elsie was also a member of the Eagle's Lodge Auxilliary #526 and held every chair, including Past President and was also a member of the Past Presidents Club. She loved bingo, reading, camping, traveling and spending time with her family. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands; and two sisters. She is survived by her son, Robert J. Jr. Roberta Griffith of Vicksburg; a daughter, Sally J. Collie of Hastings; a sister, Eleanor Reynolds, of Kalamazoo; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one niece and many special friends. A visitation will be held at 11:00 AM with funeral services following at 12:00 Noon. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 23, 2013, in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Barry Community Hospice or donations may be made to the family for funeral expenses. Elsie's family would like to express a special thank you to the wonderful staff and caregivers at Thornapple Manor and Barry Community Hospice for all of the love and care they've shown her in the past year.
